Testing is provided for a number of different reasons. If you are looking for a second opinion with regard to the testing that was done at your child's school, an IEE is the way to go. A privately funded, comprehensive psychoeducational assessment is conducted to provide a full picture of you or your child, looking into potential diagnoses and/or special education eligibility, and can provide the client with strategies and accommodations to be put in place at work or school.
This evaluation provides a comprehensive look into your child's strengths and weaknesses, as well as provides insight into the DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria and whether your child might be found eligible for special education services in school. Intellectual development, academic achievement, cognitive processing, social emotional functioning and adaptive behavior are examined. Testing is completed over 2-4 sessions, with each session lasting 2-3 hours.
When you disagree with the school's assessment of your child, or if you feel that the school's assessment may have missed something, you have a right to request that an Independent Educational Evaluation be completed at the district's expense. This assessment will provide a comprehensive examination into your points of disagreement, from an experienced, unbiased perspective. The cost of this evaluation is negotiated between myself and the district and is completed at no cost to you.
