Testing is provided for a number of different reasons. If you are looking for a second opinion with regard to the testing that was done at your child's school, an IEE is the way to go. A privately funded, comprehensive psychoeducational assessment is conducted to provide a full picture of you or your child, looking into potential diagnoses and/or special education eligibility, and can provide the client with strategies and accommodations to be put in place at work or school.
This evaluation provides a comprehensive look into your child's strengths and weaknesses, as well as provides insight into the DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria and whether your child might be found eligible for special education services in school. Intellectual development, academic achievement, cognitive processing, social emotional functioning and adaptive behavior are examined. Testing is completed over 2-4 sessions, with each session lasting 2-3 hours.
When you disagree with the school's assessment of your child, or if you feel that the school's assessment may have missed something, you have a right to request that an Independent Educational Evaluation be completed at the district's expense. This assessment will provide a comprehensive examination into your points of disagreement, from an experienced, unbiased perspective. The cost of this evaluation is negotiated between myself and the district and is completed at no cost to you.

The world of special education, IEPs and 504 Plans can be tricky to navigate. If often takes someone with experience to explain your child's educational plan in a way that you fully understand. Send me your child's assessment reports, IEPs, 504 Plans and allow me to review the records so that I can understand what is great about what the school is recommending and where they may be missing the mark. In the one-hour consultation I can answer your questions and make recommendations so that you know what to ask the school for and how to ask. I will help you understand what items on the IEP are important and what changes can really make a difference.
There are some cases that have a long history, have become a little messy, and may require additional support. In these cases, I recommend the ongoing IEP coaching service. This includes more of a deep dive into the records, follow up with regard to what you have asked for in the school and how the school has responded, phone calls whenever necessary. Additionally, I will provide you with help in writing formal letters so that your requests are legally defensible and appropriate.
Whether you require support in an IEP meeting, or would like me to attend an IEP or other school meeting to explain results of an assessment that was completed with us, the help can sometimes be invaluable. Attendance is billed per hour, in 30-minute increments and includes mileage. Please note, IEP attendance is included if we are conducting an IEE and is covered in my contract with the district.
