Reading! For many of us, its how we relax. It takes us away to an adventure or a far off land. But for many of us, reading is a major source of frustration and anxiety. So much of a child's school day centers around his or her ability to read and write, and this can present a huge hurdle to a child's success and enjoyment in school. 

According to the International Dyslexia Association, "Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. There is no cure for dyslexia and individuals with this condition must learn coping strategies". Dyslexia has no relation to intelligence. In fact, some of the most brilliant minds in history have been said to have Dyslexia. However, until it is identified, Dyslexia can cause havoc on a individual's self esteem. Yes, Dyslexia is a disability, but identifying it is the first step. 

At Bright Minds Assessment, I specialize in the identification of Dyslexia. There are many screenings that you can complete online, but the only way to truly diagnose Dyslexia is through the individualized, face-to-face testing that I can provide. My Dyslexia assessment consists of an in-depth test of reading, to evaluate how your child reads single words, sounds out words, and understands what they read. We will then jump into the tests that examine how your child's brain processes the information that directly impacts their reading ability. With this information in hand, you will be able to confidently navigate your child's education, so that they can be as successful as possible in school. My goal is for every child to feel confident in their individual abilities and to establish (or re-establish) a love of learning for a lifetime.
